Working in conjunction with the Town of Magrath and the Magrath Elementary School, we coordinated our annual collection of toys and gifts for the Good Samaritan OCC Christmas Gift Box program.
Large donation boxes were provided in each classroom and children were able to bring items to include in the gift boxes. Donated items were packed into individual boxes at the Magrath Seniors Hall by Lions and volunteer helpers one night each week over several weeks. Families and individuals were also encouraged to prepare and drop off their own prepared boxes, if desired, to us via the Magrath Pharmacy (where Lion Roger works) collection point. We drove the prepared boxes into Lethbridge at the end of Nov (on the 23rd .. their cutoff date).
We came close to last years collection of 159 boxes with 137 donated boxes this year from our little town of 2000 residents. In addition to the boxes, town residents also include money to cover shipping in each box or as a separate donation and the direct donations just for shipping was up from our last year,
All in all a fun event and excellent PR for our little club.
