Diamond Willow Terrace Upgrades

June 2012: Successful Gazebo Installation at the Diamond Willow Terrace!

The Magrath Lions are working with Gloria Alston of Diamond Willow to obtain funding and to help install upgrades to their facility, including a new 14 foot gazebo at the center of  their walking park area south of their building! On Saturday June 16 we began part one of our installation (all but the roof) and two weeks later on Sat June 30 we completed part two (the roof). Many thanks to the impressive volunteer crews who helped the Lions complete this installation. It was wonderful to have so many community helpers combine their efforts even on a holiday weekend. Drive by the new gazebo in the park below the Terrace.  It’s available for public use too, as are the outdoor picnic tables and benches installed last year. Additional outdoor warm-up/exercise equipment is on order and will be installed later this year as well.

  1. Welcome by Lion Roger at 7pm. Lion Tracie taking minutes. Noted that 2013 will be our 75th year as a club in Magrath. It may be nice to have events this year reflect this fact - perhaps ribbon cutting at new park, commemorative plaques, etc.

MES Canada Day Program

Our annual MES Canada Day Program was great fun under the direction of Lion Elizabeth with much assistance from the Elementary School (Thanks to Mrs Wilde for the helium balloons and decorations) and to everyone for helping and attending. Lions Club donated 30 dozen donuts for the happy MES student attendee's. Have a great summer and a happy real Canada on the 1st  of July!

This is what we advertised:
"Watch for our next community event .. at the Magrath Elementary School!

  • When? on last day of the MES school year – Monday 18th Jun 2012 in the afternoon at the Magrath Elementary School.
  • Who? The entire grade one through six student body (about 360 students) will be participating in a special 'early' Canada Day Celebration program hosted by the Magrath Lions Club.
  • Why? The official Canada Day holiday was inconveniently scheduled for 1 Jul on our calendar .. in the middle of summer vacation .. when school is out. We hope to promote a love for our country within our up and coming citizens in training.

It should be great fun!
Happy Canada Day .. eh."
