Magrath Days 2008

It was a busy July. We entered a float in the parade and won 2nd place in the Club category. Lots of fun. We also organized a successful Lions Club Pancake fund-raiser at the Magrath Seniors Center, thanks to the efforts of all. Elizabeth Olsen pitched in and organized a great volunteer crew this year, including: Jay and Joyce Johnson, Addie and Lois Bourne, Kent and Pat Wood, Morrie and Ila Tuff, Kathy Beck, Shirley Clifton, Elizabeth Olsen, Alyssa and Riley Erickson, Ali and Justice Pilgrim, Shirley Clifton, Jeff and Deanna Bingley, Barb Balderson, Donna Thompson (did I forget anyone?), as well as Lions Roger and Shauna Davies, Lawrence Papworth, and Tom Spackman. We served some 150 people from 7-9am.

At 2pm we had the Mayor come cut the ribbon on our upgraded Magrath Lions Playground.

In Memoriams 2008

Sep 2008 Wife of long time Lion Ken Balderson, Marge, passed away at age 88 on the 13th of September 2008 at her home in Magrath. Although not a lion herself, she supported her husband through 60 years of Lionism and is the daughter of one of our club charter members (Lion J Alfred Ririe). She was often found serving at the Magrath Lions Club meetings in the 'Lions Club Building' located next to the Magrath Pharmacy, a building donated for our use and owned by the Magrath Trading Company, also a legacy of her father.

Food Drive Results 2008

Magrath, AB (26 Apr 2008 2:30pm): 6,671 pounds as of 29 Apr 2008 with estimated value over $13,000. Wow! Thank you for supporting the Magrath and Area Community Food Drive, sponsored by all local churches on behalf of the Lethbridge Food Bank headed up by myself (Lion Roger Davies) this year (filling in for Arne Jensen who was out of the country). Happily, Food Drive 2008 was a great success!

Lions Club Officer Feb 08 e-letter

Dear Club Officers,

Lions don't just change .. Lions change for the better! When it comes to increasing our ability to serve the people of our communities and the world, nothing should be beyond the scope of our imagination.

Fortunately, it doesn't usually take outlandish ideas to yield great improvements. Lions Clubs around the world have found that one of the biggest boosts in their ability to serve comes from the energizing effect of women members. All around the world, women have rallied around the 'We Serve' motto and helped their clubs live up to the ideal it represents.
