The Magrath Lions held an induction/dinner meeting for new Lions Club members on Thu 10 Mar 2011 7pm at the home of Lion E Olsen. Thank you to the Davies for supplying the meal and to Lion Elizabeth in absentia for the use of her newly renovated home. New Lions Tracie Smith, Deanna Bingley (joining Mar 2011) and Sharon Spackman, Hazel Dudley, Leslie Dahl (since Nov 2010), were inducted by current Lion President Shauna Davies. Congratulations to all. Lion Roger reported that all new members have been updated onto the Lions Club International website.
In Mar 2011 the Lions provided a letter of support to the Diamond Willow Lodge to help install a Gazebo and Outdoor Fitness Equipment in the park south of the Diamond Willow later this year. April Lions Club events include coordination of the Town of Magrath Annual Food Drive (week ending Sat 16th Apr 2011), working the Lethbridge Casino fundraiser (on Tue/Wed 19/20 Apr 2011) to support funding for our new playground project at the Magrath Fishpond. Our April meeting is traditionally the time for annual elections for next years executive. Some discussion regarding a more regular rotatation of club officer positions were considered (ie that each position would automatically lead to next eg being asked to serve as president after completing vice president duties. New Lion Deana reported on communications with a student teacher at the Magrath School who is also a Rotary club member from Lethbridge. They and we are interested in supporting and starting youth programs at the Magrath School. They require support from local service clubs to initiate any such programs. Discussed need for inter/intra-group relationships in accomplishing common goals. They should be invited to come visit with us at next convenient meeting.
Lion Hazel suggested we advise the Westwind Newspaper to update our meeting times in their 'Community Events' section.
Next meeting scheduled for 1st Thursday in April .. 7 Apr 2011 at 7pm at FCSS building.
Induction ceremony started at 8pm and meeting adjourned at 9pm. Attending: Lions Roger/Shauna Davies, Devar Dahl, Tom/Sharon Spackman, Hazel Dudley, Deanna Bingley, Tracie Smith. Unable to attend: Lion Lawrence and spouse due to unexpected conflicts, and Lion Elizabeth who is away travelling. Lion Lesley was home sick. Other guests: Adrien Davies (providing a closing piano solo) and Shalisa Bingley.
