Magrath Lions Club Fall 2005

We Serve .. When, Where, and How

Magrath 'Lions Park' upgrade project

Back in 2003 we begin fund-raising for the much needed upgrade to the old playground equipment at our aging Lions Park (located at the comer of 2nd St West and 2nd Ave South on the west side of Magrath). Today we have reached halfway with over $7,000 of about $12,000 to 15,000 required for the project.

Phase 1 will include removal of existing wooden structures and a review of needed upgrades. Future phases are now under discussion.

We hope to work together with other interested community members to plan and fund this project with on going public planning and work meetings. This playground serves pre-school and elementary children ages 2-9+ .. children right here in our town. Want you help? Invite a friend to Lions Club.

Since membership in our club is by invitation only, why not bring along a friend to one of our regular dinner/business meetings (3rd Tue of each month) as a way to introduce prospective members to our club. Introductory brochures are available from the club secretary.

Consider Affiliate Status now available.

For existing and prospective members who wish to be in the club but cannot commit to regular attendance, we offer an 'Affiliate' status membership where meeting attendance is optional. It's a great way to support the local club .. Just come when you can! Affiliate members can vote on local club business when they are present at a meeting and can work on committees but cannot hold club office and pay slightly higher annual dues.

We plan to send re-invitation letters to former club members to invite them to the charter night open house and give them the option of coming back to support the club.

Meeting schedules for 2005-2006

Starting September 2005 we will change to one dinner/business meeting per month, on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. The change will accomodate busy members, but require greater effort in attending our meetings prepared to report on accomplishments and acheivements.

See the club website online calendar of events page for more information at: http://magrath-ab.net/lions/calendar.htm

Annual Dues News .. Ongoing Discussion

Where does our money go? Annual dues are collected to cover commitments to district, multiple district and Lions Club International organizations. Each year we now pay $46 US per club member to LCI, MD37, and to District 37C to keep things going. These funds are used for ongoing administration - the LCI website at www.lionsclubs.org, publications, for conventions and other regional and other world wide programs.

Currently our annual dues are set at $46 US or $75 CDN for Active members and $61 US or $100 CDN for Affiliate members.
