It seems to me it would be neat to celebrate a day to show just how much we do love our little town. Here's one idea .. but first, a short story. Last fall I was invited to travel down to Bigfork, Montana to participate in 'Elves Day' (by my new son-in-law whose parents live nearby). It turned out that they have an annual tradition to decorate the entire town with pine bows and Christmas lights. It was well organized and the 250+ volunteers brought or got free Santa hats (and donuts and hot chocolate) and signed up to help decorate the various town establishments. We chose to help on their Playhouse Theatre. They provided all the materials and had ladders and hardware and assigned a team leader at each location. A little golf cart vehicle roamed the street with additional supplies. It was a nice event - starting at 6:30am and finishing shortly after the noon hour. We had our pictures taken to prove we helped. End of story.
So, my giant brain said to myself. Self, why can't we do something like that up in M-A-C? Shortly after I woke up, I wrote down some of the ideas. Such as:
? Call it 'We love Magrath, Alberta, Canada Day' and maybe observe it on 'Canada Day' in July (e.g. Mon Jul 2, 2007 this year) .. oops can't do it that day - can't rain on Raymond's parade.
? Organize a town clean up or decoration (a pre-Town of Magrath Celebration i.e. 24th of July)
? Organize a 'We Love Magrath' coloring contest.
? Create and sell a 'We Love Magrath' bumper sticker or T-Shirt logo
? Collect 'We Love Magrath' donations. Provide window sticker for local businesses who donate.
What are your ideas? RDD

Magrath celebs pictured on McDonalds Cups and Bags
Did you know that Leslie and Devar of Magrath are now featured on bags and cups from McDonalds! Leslie entered the contest and won. Devar says a few times he has pointed out to people at McDonalds that, Hey, that's me on your cup there. Then he pointed out that Leslie says that is the difference between them. She would like to find a rock to hide under and he likes to stand on top of the rock and wave. Ha ha.

This from the Calgary Sun: "McDonald's is making a Magrath couple global stars -- and they're lovin' it.
Lesley and DeVar Dahl, who hail from the southern Alberta town about 200 km southeast of Calgary, are among 24 people selected to have their faces on McDonald's new international packaging set to be launched today.
Chosen from nearly 13,000 customers from more than 100 countries, the Dahls are the only Canadians to find their way onto bags and cups from the popular eatery, which will be seen daily by 50- million people worldwide.
People sent stories and photos showcasing their life's passions into the online McDonald's Global Casting Call contest last spring, and in August, two dozen of the entrants were selected.
The winners, ranging in age from five to 65 years, were picked based on their entries capturing the "I'm Lovin' It" spirit. "

Know Your History:
Magrath was established in 1899 by workers recruited by Charles A. Magrath of the Alberta Railway and Irrigation Company. Under arrangement with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS, Mormon) in Salt Lake City, Utah, immigrants were advised that they could come to Canada and that work would be provided digging the 'Main Canal' (mostly by hand) from the US Border to Lethbridge. Half the pay that they would receive would be in money and the other half in land. This massive irrigation project also produced a flood of immigration from Utah and Idaho as the Mormon church strongly promoted settlement in southern Alberta.
