How big is Magrath?

The 2006 Census puts the Population of Magrath at 2081, up from 1993 way back in 2001. Oscar and Hank (of Cornergas fame) would put it at 'about 2100'. It shows us up 4.4% over last census and for the first time over the 2000 person mark. You can see the results for yourself at www.statcan.ca.

Magrath Elementary

The Magrath Elementary has created an elementary website this year. You can find it at web.mac.com/magrathelementary. At the moment it is still under a lot of construction, but there are some short quicktime videos of class projects and artwork by students. The main school website is at www.westwind.ab.ca/mes/. The high school will have a corresponding site at www.westwind.ab.ca/mhs/
 

Shaw Cable Upgrades in Magrath

Nov 2006 Starting 22 Nov 2006 Magrath's high speed internet options are getting expanded .. by the addition of Shaw Cable's new internet service here in town. Sweet!

You may decide to stay with Telus ADSL. You may wish to switch. Here in my home office I will be switching from the expensive Telus Server plan to the more reasonable Shaw Entrepreneur plan before the end of the month. At my other day job, they will be sticking to the Telus ADSL option as the price difference for similar package is in Telus's favor for their situation (Telus reg High Speed vs Shaw High Speed).

You can bundle cable TV and Internet service together, but you don't have to. They are booking installations by phone. Call the Lethbridge office for more information.

Magrath Hometown Christmas 2006

  • Participating local Businesses will be open for late night shopping from 6-9pm (including the Magrath Pharmacy, eh!)
  • Gift Fair at SASH and in basement of Magrath Library
  • Santa comes to Town!
  • Free Stating 6:35-7:35pm at Ice Arena
  • Carollers; Bonfire; Hot Chocolate and Treats; hosted by High School Band members

Labor Day Breakfast 2006

The Town of Magrath hosted it's FREE breakfast on Labor Day, Monday 4th September 2006 from 7am - 9am at the Magrath Elementary School (MES). Local volunteers under the direction of Patrica Dudley served up pancakes with butter, syrup, fruit, and whipped cream as well juice boxes and steaming hot chocolate. It seemed a very popular event in spite of the early start on a holiday! Thank you for coming out to celebrate the holiday with us. If you volunteered some time to help out, double thanks from all of us to you! GO MAGRATH! .. and good job to whomever was in charge of the weather for the day.
