Highways

Magrath is situated near the center of sunny Southern Alberta at the intersection of Highway 5, which runs south and east from the Lethbridge area rolling prairie down to the high Rocky Mountains at the Waterton/Glacier International Peace Park, and Highway 62, which runs directly south from Magrath to the Port of Del Bonita on the Canada/US border (see map below).

Services

Highways are maintained under the direction of Alberta Transportation, who subcontract the actual work in the Magrath area to Volker Stevin Contracting Inc.

Postal Service is the responsibility of Canada Post Corporation. All regular postal services and post office boxes for rent are available at the town Post Office, located across from the Alberta Treasury Branch in downtown Magrath. Commercial courier service in addition to that provided by Canada Post is available from courier companies covering Lethbridge and area. Many of these companies (UPS, Loomis, etc) provide daily pickup and drop off in Magrath. Local transport is also provided by Greg's Transport and Cardston Express.

Garbage Disposal for the town is managed jointly by Alberta Environment Pollution Control Division and the Chief Mountain Regional Solid Waste Authority. A local transfer station is located directly south of Magrath and is open to the public for drop off two days each week, on Wednesday's and Saturday's from 10 am to 6 pm. Local pickup within the Town of Magrath each Saturday can be arranged from local company, MTM Garbage Disposal.

Public Transit

Magrath has no intercommunity public transit system. A handibus with wheelchair ramp, provided by the independent Magrath Handibus Association, is available to those in need on an on-call basis. Current rates in town are $3 per trip for medical services or $10 per hour for other trips.

Interurban passenger and courier bus service is provided by Greyhound Canada. The nearest commercial and air freight services for Magrath are located at Lethbridge, Alberta. The Lethbridge Airport is located on Highway 5, just south of the City of Lethbridge. It receives 11 scheduled airline passenger and freight arrivals from Canadian Regional and Air BC, to and from the Calgary international Airport.

Railway freight transportation service is available through Canadian Pacific. The tracks from Magrath to Cardston have recently been eliminated, but grain and other train cars still load at the Magrath Elevators for transport back to Lethbridge and beyond.
